Haan galo - haan galo is a duo-performance of Patrícia Corrêa and Liesje van den Berk about relation, game and control. The eye connection is an important part of our work. Two persons are connected in there own game… a voice without sound and a powerful profound bond. We also use subtle elements to communicate our game with the audience. For example the metronome, that marks the pulse of the game. The sound communicated with the audience this intimate game that we were playing.
Eye contact that never breaks, increasing emotions, control, breathing, control, fight, control, friendship, control, tears, control and more breathing… We talk with the eyes!
Patricia en Liesje met each other at PAS (Performance Art Studies) in Berlin in the summer of 2011.
Liesje van den Berk is a visual artist. She makes realistic drawings, which often grow into installations with real people and performance. She shows her work in galleries and public space in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States, such as Bart Kunst in Huis, Oerol and Grimmuseum Berlin.
Patrícia Corrêa is a performance artist, researcher, curator and cultural producer. In her work as a performer she is currently developing snapshot actions in Lisbon (Portugal), city were she works and lives. She showed her work in Lisbon, Berlin and most recently at the 6th edition of Sao Tome and Principe Biennal.
http://www.liesjeberk.nl & http://patricia-correa.blogspot.com

As an actress Martine van Ditzhuyzen has a preference for physical acting and object manipulation.
She worked a lot in children theatre as a puppet player. Three years ago she founded the collective Trickster with Marielle Verdijk en began to give multimedia performances based on improvisation. Also she started her study in theatre science. In her first “solo” performance ‘The story I live by’ she will explore the concept of identity en storytelling. She links objects with her storytelling to underline the influence of the outside world on the way she looks back, interprets, gives sense and talks about some of her live events. Who will tell the story; will it be she or the objects? What story will be told and will it be the objects story or her story? She asked composer and performer Barbara Ellison, also a member of Trickster, to join her in the
performance.

PAEkort is a monthly event organized by PAE presenting two performance art works in one evening in the Wolfart Projectspaces Rotterdam. The aim is to have a more regular stage for performance art to encourage the performance art in the Netherlands and keep the audience connected by building up a relationship through regularity. Next that we want to present established performance artists our focus will be more on the beginners and the ones who have no experience but need a place for the experiment.

PAEkort is supported by the “Mya - NAC culture fund” and Stichting bevordering van Volkskracht.
empty spaces and resonances.

to outline.

To create the possibility of a landscape with the least
nõde presents Peter Fengler & Steve Van den Bosch, Lecture/ presentation
nõde presents

Peter Fengler & Steve Van den Bosch, Lecture/ presentation

16 December, 2011, 9.30PM, door/bar open at 9PM

Wolfart Project Space

Wolphaertstraat 25, Rotterdam

Free!

Continuing the showcases informing the project ‘Charlois Frequencies’ and as a prelude to the forthcoming exhibition, we would like to invite you to join us in this evenings program; a double and unpredictably complementary, presentation, by Rotterdam and Antwerp based artists, Peter Fengler and Steve Van den Bosch.

Peter Fengler

a retarded copy is the new standard

Central to this work is the (de)generation(s) of sound. By using the most direct way of sound storage (audio-cutting & molding) fragments and notations are crafted and reproduced on sound-carriers. The technique is such that during the process of storing and reproduction, information is lost or distorted. This is not taken as a depreciation. By pulling this technique through multiple generations, a new sound appears. The piece comments on the ethics and aesthetics of audio and the source. The question is how we valorize the output. Are we looking for purity in the sense of ‘authentic’ as pristine, or do we consider ‘the real thing’ as unavoidably lived through and furnished by noise, changing, transmutating.

Based on this methodology Peter Fengler will produce an intriguing sound-archive, with a singular status, leaving the source behind.

Steve Van den Bosch

Filter

For ‘Charlois Frequencies’, Steve Van den Bosch is planning to produce a sound-work that registers moments of non-communication in public spaces; town hall, subway stations, post offices, etc… “Thinking of anthropological sound documents, were grasping a society’s specific cultural features is the main goal, I wanted to re-direct the attention to the interval between moments of valuable information. Intervals where apparently ‘nothing’ happens and the confirmation of a multitude of cultural expressions through speech remains suspended. Something like a Cage-approach to anthropology.”

Biographies

Peter Fengler works at the intersection of performance, experimental music and visual arts. The theory, design, lifestyle and staging are key parameters in his work. He regards sound as representation and installational concept; as political, aesthetic and positional weapon, where its analysis features its history and its future. Peter Fengler is interested in this total spin-off, that which accompanies sound as subculture and the mind behind it. He is an explicit performer, building a polymorphous construction based on the theme ‘BAROQUE, NON BAROQUE a story on proportionism’, where indicative ‘suggestionen’ fulfill a major role in the exploration of a space, that every now and then permits modification. In other words based on musicalinguistic forms, nuance is sought to be re-defined. His work shifts between intellectualism and nonsense, and is a prove for his predilection for ‘ultrahobbyism’, characterized by pleasantly subversive overtones with alarming lucidity; leaning towards the a-aesthetic. These materialize in self-cut vinyl publications, performative series and textual articles and lectures.

Steve Van den Bosch’s work focuses on the implications of art practice. Not confined to any specific medium, he researches the parameters that define (a) work. The resulting ‘pieces’ are based on procedures that aim to dismantle these parameters in order to disrupt and re-use them in aberrant forms. They particularly revolve around notions of speculation and chronology as well as deliberate misuse or misreading, with ‘nothingness’ as a recurrent motive.

The above proposals follow the ‘The Collected Sounds of Charlois’ and ‘Regulating use, using Regulation’ with Noah Angell and Kelwin Palmer. Initiated under nõde’s “Charlois Frequencies”, a multichannel platform for developing new modes of considering the idea of community and its representations. During the coming month a selection of artists, an architect, an anthropologist, and a curator, are staying in Charlois to collect data and to produce works resulting in an exhibition and a series of print and sound based publications to be released in mid 2012.

Janneke van der Putten is based in Rotterdam. She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and obtained her Bachelor degree with Honours at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2009. In September 2011 van der Putten started the two-year Master Trajectory for Research in the Arts at the University of the Arts, in The Hague. Her works have been presented in The United States, Germany, Belgium and in The Netherlands.
“In my art practice I aim to contextualize the analogous use of the human voice within the fields of graphic notations and aural traditions through a responsive way of working. At PAE I will present a work in progress, entitled ‘:’, expanding on the performative use of a notebook originating from publication ‘Titel van dit schrift’ (transl. ‘Title of this notebook’), 2009. In ‘:’ I am interested in how to relate myself to (the new edition of) this notebook. How do I use this object? The improvised use, in the moment of ‘interaction’, can be expressed in different ways such as in movement, writing, reading, speech and vocalization. In this research I explore a process evolvement which react to a specific setting: the notebook, changing with each use. I am interested in the way contents are generated as a consequence of relations, such as reactions and interpretations upon the working material. I find it fascinating when a present state of this material-content incorporates traces of action, as indicators of time.”

Cristóbal Yáñez Lanzarini is a Performance artist and Actor. His work in performance started in 2005, when he did performances for photographs, later on, he got involved with independent artists’ organization in Chile to present his performances, both in public spaces as well as in alternative galleries. His main theme is the relationship between genealogy, motherhood and the concept of self. He is currently working at Perfolink, the Latin American Performance art platform, he also works with the collective, Black Market Chile.
“My work operates in different dimensions, both in the themes and methodologies in use; with a thread that connects the whole body of my work: the audience as the fundamental axis of my performances. I want to address issues of geographic and corporeal territoriality, in which the body becomes an idea, where it is transformed into a sign element. The current theme I am exploring at this stage of my career is the family tree as personal history.”

Borre van der Hoeven (1987 NL) just gradua-ted at St. Joost. While he’s performing, Borre creates his own world. In small tableaus’s he takes viewers back to the tension, where innocence and evil are taken by the test. Symbolism and rituals are sources of inspiration for his imagination. There he looks for a certain tactility. With his love for shapes and passion for image, he invites viewers to a moment, where he can share the unavoidably struggle between order and chaos.

Frank Homeyer (1964 DE). I have developed performances as a focus of my work, next to painting and photography. I develop my performances like a picture. Beginning with an idea or a subject I distributes the different elements in space and connect them with time to shape the performance. It is important for me to include autobiographical references and to leave an opening for change and improvisation in the process. I document my perfor-mances with photography (and film). The fotographs will be base fore my artwork.

Dag: 26 May 2011

Tijd: vanaf 13:00 uur tot 13:00 uur

Occupy Space are proud to present in_flux, a large scale alternative art fair exhibition which brings together ten artist-led project spaces from Ireland and Europe.
Invited Art Spaces:

126 Galway; 1646 The Hague; Basement Project Space Cork;
Block T Dublin; Catalyst Belfast; Monster Truck Dublin; Transition
London; Transmission Glasgow; SOMA Waterford; W_Lf_rt Rotterdam

This temporary hub invites the public and art practitioners to engaging in a weekend of performances, screenings, exhibitions, art viewing and dialogue.

This project considers the model of artist-led spaces, which provide alternative frameworks for art practices, and represent communities where ‘doing-it-yourself’ and experimentation are key activities. Artist-led spaces are vital, energetic elements of the visual art fabric of many cities. This exhibition, consisting of pop-up galleries from each artist-led space, makes reference to an non-traditional art-fair format in which non-profit artist-led spaces present exhibitions rather than commercial galleries striving to sell work.

From May 26 - 29 in_flux temporarily takes over the Thomas Street Centre, an 11,000 m2 landmark building in Limerick city centre. The ten galleries will present their pop-up exhibitions over five extensive floors, while the top floor will host an e v+ a bookshop and in_flux Salon, a place for discussion, screenings and talks.

in_flux brings to Limerick a exciting sample of diverse contemporary art practices from some of the most interesting artist-led spaces in Ireland and Europe. This project initiates a collaboration between grass-roots art spaces of similar orientations, with the intention of creating new opportunities for artists locally, nationally and internationally, while promoting the strength of visual culture in Limerick.

A series of events will accompany the exhibition programme including VideoGram, 10 x10 Pecha Kucha, artist talks and visits to local studios. in_flux is partnering with Limerick City Gallery of Art and e v+ a to present Double Act, a series of conversations, screenings and reflections on the collaborative process with guest appearances by a number of interesting artists, curators and other creative types. Double Act Programme will take place in the in_flux Salon from May 26 - 28. Full details to be announced on the LCGA website http://www.gallery.limerick.ie

LCGA has also extended the run of How Capital Moves a new body of work by artist duo Kennedy Browne, curated by Annette Moloney, to coincide with in_flux. Originally commissioned for the Lodz biennale Poland 2010 the work is partly a response to a computer factory relocating to Łódź in Poland from Limerick, Ireland. Open at Istabraq Hall, Merchant’s Quay, Limerick 9.30 - 5.30 throughout in_flux.

Concurrent to in_flux Occupy Space presents an exhibition which considers human obsession with the end of the world. Oops Apocalypse presents work by Beagles & Ramsay, Baldvin Ringsted, Sam Dargan and Alan Mongey, responding in different ways to our fixation with the apocalypse. Open1 - 5pm, Wednesday to Saturday.

in_flux launches on Thursday 26 May at 7pm in Occupy Space.

Noah Angell, Screening and Lecture 8 April, 2011, 8PM
Noah Angell is a filmmaker whose works are composed through a process
of reanimating archival material by editing; of opening up the holes in the
discourse embedded therein and making them sing, an operation which
exorcises the fantasies and ideological undercurrents in select moments
of film.

Noah Angell currently lives and works in London. Recent exhibitions include ” The Allegory of the Cave”
at Art Container, Tallinn,“14 January - 18 December 2010” at MOT International, “A Tergo” at Limoncello,
London; “About Now” at Message Salon, Zurich; “Noah Angell Rana Hassanieh” at Treignac Project,
France; “Dramaturgy of the Subject” at Open Space, Vienna.
Upcoming exhibitions include a lecture at Banner Repeater in London, the Batroun Project launch in
Batroun, Lebanon and a solo exhibition at Oksasenkatu 11 in Helsinki, Finland.

An exhibition with Toon Fibbe, Arvo Leo, Fran Meana, Anna Okrasko, Anouchka Oler, Se Ra Park, Miho Shimizu, Sophie Valero and Martijn in ’t Veld
The United States Air Force coined the term UFO in 1952. Science pointed to the fact that there were some unexplained phenomena. An entire platform of beliefs from an unknown world, an unknown otherness was opened. UFOs are one of the viewable examples that show that belief has changed and does not belong to religion anymore. Why we still need and desire to believe is an open question.

As artists we are building, re-enacting, telling stories about belief. The belief as an unknown object, an aimless and desperate desire, where the focus would not be the object of desire in itself but the “hope” which is developed before this. The aim of the project is to approach the desire to believe and what it begets through different practices and interests connected to this notion. The object of this desire does not have to be pronounced; maybe because it does not exits. Maybe, we can offer a belief with its invisible borders between fiction and reality, a belief between sincerity and irony. This ambiguous statement of produced belief is asking trust. Is it allowed, to not consider something as true, but as something that has to be trusted and so believe in a blissful way?

“As a first approximation, I define “belief” not as the object of believing (a program, a dogma etc.), but as the subject’s investment in a proposition, the act of saying it and considering it as true – in other words, a “modality” of the assertion and not its content.”
